Three of us ordered Caesar salads (2 salmon, 1 chicken), and all were enjoyed. They've also changed their potatos from regular house potatoes to large cubes of something partially boiled and then quickly fried, they were aweful!
On the street of Southeast Milwaukie Avenue and street number is 5829. The staff also are so friendly and helpful that the wait doesn’t feel bad at all either.
Now (several years later) the only part I remember of the night is this restaurant. A bit of clarification: 5 stars for dessert; overall is 4 stars. The burgers are to die for.. Bocona Dollce.. Ymmm just the way I wanted it. My burger was under $11 dollars and I finished with an awesome slice of pie built for two! It’s difficult to pick just one!Portlanders love brunch and the new trendy places get a lot of press visibility. Dessert, American, New American, Cocktail bars, Vegetarian options. We had the most wonderful outdoor wedding last summer and in part was due to Papa Haydn and our organizer from Papa's, Tewin! He also was able to recommend a very nice scotch to wash down our tasty treat. We will be going back soon for sure. 5th ~ the music was too loud for nice conversation 6th ~ the server cleared our plates as soon as she could and brought our bill without even asking if we'd like anything else, dessert etc. Josh was great too but we worked mainly with Tewin.. She was patient, professional and wonderful!! after repeated visits in the last few months hoping that eventually it would redeem itself, I have to say that this place has joined the ranks of restaurants coasting on a reputation built long ago. .I saw David talk to Megan, and nothing happened. Desert is still lovely and delicious-- though of course with a list of desert options the length of a phone book, some are going to be better than others, like the amazing mexican chocolate cake! If you like colossal, rich, incredibly tasty desserts and are feeling like going to a fancier place, this is your spot! Our service was also very good. GREAT Service!!! We sat down and had to wait some time before anyone came over. the icing was a great butter cream flavor. She was very indifferent towards us. – Gaggles of teenage girls, prom entourages and couples out for a romantic date cluster under the recognizable striped awning at this corner restaurant while waiting for a coveted table. From the beautiful hot cocoa to the wonderful desserts the granddaughters were thrilled. Decent food, but NOT worth the wait or crowd – When we arrived at Papa Haydn's there were exactly two couples in front of us in line. We had around 150 people and everyone raved about the food.. Make reservations... it will be a long wait if you don't. Good Dessert Place – I have only tried the lunch menu several times, and the food, while good, didn't leave a lasting impression. Then we came across Papa Haydns. This is a destination dessert location!!! I called Papa Haydn's in NW to explain the situation. she had shorter blonde hair, but i don't remember her name. I would suggest splitting a dessert. We knew it would be a wait, so we went to a pub across the street to wait. We split a Georgian peanut butter mousse torte and my husband had an affogato. And I have to agree with another reviewer, the Croque Monsieur is no where near as good as it used to be - not the same quality of ham, so little cheese I had to check to see if there really was any, no parmesan on the outside and very greasy.
If you're listening "Papa Haydn", we especially miss the chicken club, chevre pate, and creamy tarregon dressing. One of the owners just called me and without asking me my version of what happened stated that he talkd to both the GM and the waiter and he feels there was nothing they could have done differently. Best wedding cake!
