Luz alsostudied the paintings and prints of Italian artist Giorgio Morandi for their simplicity in content and technique.Luz’s works have been, and continue to be, a part of private collections and areexhibited in international galleries and museums, including the Manila Contemporary. Like his painting, it is characterized by simplicity of line and geometry of form. Although Luz was a founding director of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and served in that position from 1976 to 1986. Other outstanding awards included the first prize at the First International Art Salon in Saigon, Vietnam, in 1962; an award from the California Art Association; and the Republic Cultural Heritage Award for painting of the Philippine Republic in 1966. His international shows include the Philippine Cultural Exhibition held in New York in 1953, Arte de America y España in 1963, the 11th São Paolo Biennial in 1971, the Tokyo International Print Biennial in 1974, and the 8th British International Print Biennale in 1984. While still in college Luz began exhibiting his works and won his first prize in the annual art competition of the Art Association of the Philippines.

National Artists: Arturo R. Luz [Cultural Heritage] Arturo R. Luz, painter, sculptor and designer, received the title of National Artist in Visual Arts in 1997. Luz won the distinction of being designated National Artist of the Philippines, the highest artistic honor in the country, for Visual Arts in 1997.Luz was born on November 20, 1926 in Manila. He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, the Art School of the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and the Académie Grade Chaumière in Paris; he received a diploma from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1994. His work, which includes paintings, sculpture, graphics and photographs, is in private and institutional collections.In 1995, his work was on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum. Fernando Zobel de Ayala, a fond admirer of Luz, called him "a painter's painter" and explained that other painters are the most common purchasers of Luz’s works at auction due to an appreciation for the artist’s meticulous craftsmanship.
